8th Grade Curriculum Module

This curriculum unit is broken down into modules.  As the teacher, you choose to do them in the order that fits your curriculum.  These modules are based on the LA GLE's and the LA Comprehensive Curriculum.

Module 1: Newton's Laws

This module develops the relationship between force, mass, and acceleration.  The robot will be used to demonstrate Newton’s Laws of Motion.

1st Law: An object does not move unless acted upon and an object in motion stays in motion unless a force acts upon it.
Example:   1.) The robot sits on a desk.
2.) The robot acts like a car. A student puts an egg-person on the robot and programs it to
go forward with an abrupt STOP.  The egg person flies forward.

2nd Law: Force = mass x acceleration
Example:   1.) Robot pushes two different size weights.
2.) The robot acts like a tractor and pulls different mass objects with the same program.
                    3.) Robot demonstrates orbital paths.

3rd Law: For every action, there is an equal but opposite reaction.
Example:   1.) Robot hits a ball, the ball goes flying forward.
2.) Student pushes the touch sensor causing the robot to go forward.
