Red Stick Robotics February 16th VEX Sack Attack Competition
On Saturday February 16th middle and high school teams from Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi arrived at the Univeristy of New Orleans Human Performing Arts Center for the Red Stick Robotics VEX Comeptition. Over thirty teams came together for a non-stop, action-packed day of competition where they competed against each other with robots created from the VEX Robotics Design System.
Participants squared off in the game Sack Attack, developed by VEX Robotics, Inc, and the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, leaders in educational and competitive robotics. The VEX Sack Attack is played on a 12' X 12' square field where alliances - one "red" and one "blue" composed of two teams each compete in matches consisting of a fifteen second autonomous period followed by one minute and forty-five seconds of driver-controlled play.
The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing alliance by scoring sacks and bonus sacks in your colored floor goals, troughs and high goal and by having the most robots of your color parked at the end of the match.
Red Stick Robotics through hosting this event brought the first ever VEX competiton to the New Orleans area. This was the second ever VEX event hosted in the state of Louisiana, the first having been the January 19th competition Red Stick Robotics hosted on the campus of Louisiana Tech.
The February 16th Red Stick Robotics VEX Sack Attack Competition at UNO qualifed Team #300 Enigma, a homeschool family group from Huston Texas to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship which will be taking place in April at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.
